How to Enable and Disable GoDaddy 2-step login security?

What is 2-step verification?

2-step verification is a way to make your login more secure by requiring another step in the login process. It requires some extra steps, so to speak, before logging in to a website. This extra step consists of sending a text message (SMS) or verifying your identity via an app on your mobile phone. You can't see the SMS text message yourself, but there are some simple ways to track where it's sent from, how long it waits before sending the verification token, and other important details about your account. GoDaddy supports the following 2SV methods:

How to Enable 2-step verification?

  1. Go to your GoDaddy Login & PIN page. You might be prompted to sign in.
  2. Under 2-Step Verification, select Add Verification.
  3. Choose the 2SV method you'd like to use
    • Authenticator app (recommended): The code will be generated by an authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator or Authy. It is recommended technique for most users.

    • SMS text messages: You will receive a text message with the code.

Although this approach is practical, we advise just using it as a backup because it lacks the same level of security.

    • Security key: For this type of authentication, a hardware security key with USB or Bluetooth support will be needed.

If you want the best level of security or are a domain investor, you should choose this technique.

  4. Select Next
  5. Finish the setup procedure using the method you chose:
    • If you choose the Authenticator App, scan the barcode after installing the app as directed on your phone. Select Next after entering the app's name and the login code.
    • If you chose SMS text messages, enter your phone number and then press the Next button. Enter the 6-digit code Godaddy texted you (valid for 20 minutes), then click Next.
    • If you chose Security Key (such as a Yubikey or Google Titan), follow the Godaddy setup instructions here set up the security key.

You will get a success message verifying your changes if you completed all the procedures correctly.
